Pet Services - Dental
Surveys consistently show over 80% of all pets have some form of treatable dental disease. Bad breath, reddened or bleeding gums, reluctance to eat hard foods and bones are all indicators of dental disease.
Over time, food particles and bacteria build up in the mouth forming plaque. This leads to infection and inflammation in the gums (gingivitis). This infection eventually attacks the teeth and their surrounding structures causing pain, loosening and loss of teeth (peridontitis). Chronic infection in the gums also spreads via the blood to damage other organs such as the heart and kidneys.
Cats suffer from a unique and painful dental disease, there the crown of the tooth is gradually eroded (FORL-Feline Odoentoclastic Resoprtive Lesions).
A few easy steps to help preventdental disease;
Firstly, examination and treatment of current problems;
Secondly, a home dental care plan that includes a dental friendly diet and other dentalaids.
Finally, regular check-ups are essential.
Please, make an appointment at our Veterinary Clinic for your FREE dental check, week days only.
Remember pets can’t express their pain in the same manner as humans, and natural selection in ancestral dogs has ensured that they actually hide pain from potential predators. Therefore dental disease can easily go unnoticed. You wouldn't expect to go a lifetime without dental care nor should our pets.
Pets need dental care too!.
